Swedish and sweet
In short, a small and cosy specialist bakery/patisserie with possibly the most extensive repertoire of Swedish goods in central London. Gothenburg-raised Daniel Karlsson opened Bagariet in April 2013, five years after his move from Stockholm to London. The rather rustic, warm and squeezed space has a few tables at which to sit and sip coffee and enjoy any number of immaculately made baked goods (of cinnamon, cardamom, almond, hazelnut, chocolate, custard etc) prepared by Karlsson and co-chef Sven-Gunnar Appelgren (ex-Ottolenghi and Wolseley). They also do a selection of Swedish savouries, with fish, meatballs and pickled things among the tasty constituents. 'Bageriet' = 'bakery' in near-unpronounceable Swedish. Located in a passage that links Long Acre and Floral St in Covent Garden, a mere six-minute deviation from Soho. Tube stations: Covent Garden and Leicester Square.
