Retro Bar

An alternative to Soho
Tucked in an alley just south of the Strand and an eight-minute stroll from Soho, the Retro Bar is a warm, friendly, fun and rather indie-spirited two-floor pub decorated with framed reminders of once-hip and still-great-sounding 70s and 80s pop stars. Appeals to both men and women, and is renowned for its parties leading up to and including the spectacularly kitsch annual late-May Eurovision Song Contest. Check the website for weekly and monthly themed nights including Frankie Goes to Retro and Let It Rock. Tube stations: Embankment and Charing Cross.

      Funky and chilled
Not that easy to find, but once you are there the staff are pleasant and the walls are covered with photos of stars. A good place to start your evening or for a quiter drink.
