Buzzy, Italian-inspired savoury-and-sweet canteen-style brasserie started in 2008 by visionary restaurateur Alan Yau and celebrated Milanese artisan baker Rocco Princi. This is Yau's first collaboration, and its rather glossy sheen and crazed energy do not quite gel with his great projects since the 90s (Wagamama, Busaba Eathai, Hakkasan, Yauatcha etc), but it succeeds as an accessible Soho drop-in for relatively inexpensive pizza and very good (but not exemplary) snacks and cakes, though the latter are displayed in unappealing corporate-looking sheets. Lots of high stools with lots of people taking up those places and being quite loud, so opting for off-peak hours is strongly recommended unless you wish to be a part of the throng. On-site bakery too. In April 2019 a second outlet, with a more sit-down restaurant feel (and several more proper dinner items on the menu), opened nearby at the corner of Wardour St and Shaftesbury Ave (in the space previously occupied by Babaji). Further afield there's New York City, Chicago, Seattle, Shanghai, Tokyo and Milan, dahling.
