In April 1992 Belgians Denis Blais and André Pilsnier opened their first Belgo, in Chalk Farm, near Camden Town. Not only did it introduce many previously unseasoned Londoners to excellent quality mussels and chips (moules-frites), but it did so for a then unusually reasonable price. That same year Alan Yau's Wagamama [see entry] performed the same little miracle with bowls of Japanese noodles and soups, and the two establishments received credit for pretty much transforming London...
