The Yard

(59 Ratings)
Popular Soho outlet for the non-glossy, rather knowing and subtly stylish

Full-on casual bar with two distinctly different spaces, including the outdoor and garden-like Courtyard, which is heated in winter and which gives this venue the buzz it's known for. Upstairs the Loft Bar provides quieter hanging-out opportunities, with leather sofas, coffee tables and a smokers' balcony overlooking the noisy courtyard below. In short, low-key but not dull, and more cosy than cruisy, though on weekends the cranked-up atmosphere is more in line with typical Soho bars, catering to the smart, toned and sexy. Cocktails are a thing here too. Located about a 25-second walk west of Old Compton St.

a must to start you night in Soho

My favourite bar in london for its upstairs english pub feeling, and the great and "greenish"outdoor courtyard downstairs. Nice crowd around, feel free to smoke, however the bartenders aren't very friendly compared to other places in Soho, too bad for them, they loose on tips!

Smoker's heaven

The Yard has its own private courtyard which makes this a favourite for people who are smokers. The courtyard is elegant and offers a great space to taking a nice summer evening or to have a rich cigar in a lavish patio. This bar has great music and an elegant atmosphere it continues to be one of the most popular bars in the Soho. Part of the reason for this could be the fact that the bar and waiters usually come to work completely shirtless.

Cool bar with courtyard

This venue comprises a downstairs bar, front courtyard (hence the name of the bar), plus a loft bar upstairs with a balcony overlooking the courtyard. The loft is cosy with original wooden beams and the balcony can be useful in summer for surveying the clientele.
