Very possibly the best Turkish food in an area known for its Turkish food (and increasing lifestyle trendiness), and certainly among the finest in London. Dirik is no longer connected to his first Mangal, which he co-started in 1991. Dirik's son Ferhat and Sertaç operate Mangal II, and during the COVID lockdown in 2020 they reinvented the space and the menu, maintaining old favourites while also adding a modern touch. Spitalfields-based artists Gilbert & George were known to eat here most nights, but their custom came to a halt during lockdown. 'Mangal' translates as 'barbecue'.
