Chariots (Shoreditch) (Closed Permanently)

Largest of five London-wide outlets in the Chariots chain of popular saunas, with three floors of manly distractions, including two 20-man steam rooms, two 30-man saunas, massive tiled warm room with heated benches, internet café and snack bar, a maze of 50 private rest rooms [UK = rooms for resting, not toilets], satellite TV lounge, heated pool, two jacuzzis, masseurs, gym, 500 lockers and smoking area. Opened in 1996. Other branches followed in Streatham (Southwest London), Waterloo, Limehouse (East London) and, most recently, Vauxhall [see entry], located under two arches and now the second largest of the lot. In November 2014 Chariots surrendered its Limehouse venue to new owners Sailors, who've reverted the space to its previous moniker. Sadly this original Chariots closed in February 2016, due for commercial redevelopment. The Streatham branch likewised closed.
