A rough-looking pub with a green Christopher St sign protruding from its violet and mauve exterior, the sizeable Joiners Arms is a magnet for the post-club crowd at weekends, drawn to its down-and-dirty, seedy 'charm'. The current space bears little resemblance to its former incarnation as an unfussy and sex-friendly gay male boozer; it's now more of a bastion of East End arty hipness. The real thing?
I think this website should go back to Joiners Arms to find out what's really going on. I've never been in a room ful of more pretentious, rude and obnoxious people who have an air of self-importance. Gay men, yeah, with their squeeky clean straight gals who push you about coz they think they are so fabulous. Seriously don't go here unless you are a complete luvvie who thinks you are "real" just coz you are wearing a second hand checked shirt with your Armani bag and gucci trainers. Oh and expect to spend the whole night queing up either for the toilet or bar and expect everyone to push in front of you and "pretend" they didn't see you coz they are oh so more important than you. Sickening behaviour, horrible place, horrible night, hopefully wont go back.
Joiners Re-opened !
So glad that this famous pub has re-opened over the road. It runs weekly every Sunday at the Ye Olde Axe.
i like the beer in the joiners arms and the bar staff?
Nice friendly pub nice people and good bar staff
Favorite pub in London
I usually end up going to the Joiner's at about 2am when all the rest of the drinking establishments in the area are closed. Walk past the unpretentious and plain exterior, and you'll stumble on a diverse crowd ready to dance well into the night (and morning) to a pleasing mixture of house and pop. The Joiner's attracts a more alternative East End crowd and is thus a welcome respite from the plastic neon bars in Soho. During the mid-week it can be slow but is usually packed late night on Friday and Saturday. Go around midnight on Thursday or Sunday for a manageable mix. Highly recommended for the alternative minded.
Unpretentious shabby chic
We went there on a Sunday to find a queue of people who you'd expect to be extras from a gaga video. Music was great. Remixed housy pop but good nonetheless. The crowd was friendly as well. Worth checking out.
