A no-frills but clean and functional-plus 2010 hotel that marked the first British outpost for a Malaysian-based chain that has also broken ground in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. The design is basic but decent, there's no bar or restaurant and 12 of the 79 doubles have no windows. Prices are subject to demand but very much on the cheap side. Yes, it's south of the river, but only by about an eight-minute walk, with both Westminster and Waterloo Bridges within easy reach. A late-night stagger home from either Vauxhall or Soho would require no more than 20 or 25 minutes of one's inebriated attention. London's finest gay leather tailor, Richard Wilbraham, has a studio just a minute or two away [see entry in Shops]. Point A outlets in Kings Cross and Liverpool are a bit cheaper. Tube station: Lambeth North, with Waterloo a five-minute walk away. Other branches: Kings Cross, Paddington, Kensington, Canada Water, Shoreditch and Liverpool St, the latter of which stands immediately opposite Dennis Severs's house/museum in Folgate St [see entry in Arts] in interesting Spitalfields. Online booking only.
