This is that relatively futuristic-looking hotel in the top left corner of Leicester Square hotel that looks as if it's glowing and which is visible from Wardour St in Soho. Located on the site previously occupied by the iconic but ungainly Swiss Centre (1966–2007), the W caters to the buzzy area's disregard for dullness with more than a touch of sparkle and colour, and might possibly have shares in the company that produces mirrorballs. Food, clubbing and spa and gym facilities all coexist happily with the 192 rooms on offer across seven floors, with some great views of central London a bonus. You don't get more central than this, for better or worse. Owned by Marriott. Opened February 2011.
