The Proposal / To Be a Wife - Two same-sex marriage comedies

In response to the legislations allowing same-sex marriage in the UK & alongside the widely discussed discrimination of LGBT people in Russia, we are giving Anton Chekhov's one-act-classic 'The Proposal' a new twist by turning it into a futuristic farce about marriage equality. To complete our comedy-double-bill we will also present a brand new play about same-sex marriage by Tilly Lunken called 'To Be a Wife'. *** Anton Chekhov's freely adapted One-Act-Farce THE PROPOSAL, directed by Joe Allan Well, in Russia 2114 Ivana has come to propose marriage to Stepan's daughter Natalya. However, she only gets into a succession of pointless arguments with Natalya, involving boundary disputes and dogs. Stepan's contributions to the flow of events are no help to the situation either; nor is Ivana's hypochondria...
