Newport Street Gallery

Another big white art gallery

A massive, white-walled triple-warehouse conversion by Caruso St John Architects on two floors, opened in October 2011 by artist and businessman Damien Hirst to exhibit his own collection, from Picasso to Jeff Koons. Best of all are the stairwells. Free entry. A full-on in-house restaurant, Pharmacy², opened early 2016, with dinner served well beyond the gallery's closing time. Located kinda in the middle of nowhere, across the road from railway arches, halfway between Vauxhall and Lambeth North Tube stations. In 2016 the conversion beat out five other shortlisted buildings and projects to win the coveted Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize.
