In response to the legislations allowing same-sex marriage in the UK & alongside the widely discussed discrimination of LGBT people in Russia, we are giving Anton Chekhov's one-act-classic 'The Proposal' a new twist by turning it into a futuristic farce about marriage equality. To complete our comedy-double-bill we will also present a brand new play about same-sex marriage by Tilly Lunken called 'To Be a Wife'.

Well, in Russia 2114 Ivana has come to propose marriage to Stepan's daughter Natalya. However, she only gets into a succession of pointless arguments with Natalya, involving boundary disputes and dogs. Stepan's contributions to the flow of events are no help to the situation either; nor is Ivana's hypochondria... But at least all of this is happening in Russia; a beacon of equality; where a woman is proposing to another woman!

Reviews for previous Goblin Baby Productions:
★★★★ - Remotegoat - "Goblin Baby Theatre Co. seems to have a knack for finding ways to address at times challenging or unusual topics through theatre."
★★★★ - Exeunt Magazine - "The superstitiously secular, domestic world of Claire Booker’s The Devil and Stepashka manages to create a believable male Antigone in what ends up to be very literally one hell of a double-bind."
★★★★ - Female Arts - "The world is full of women with no voice of their own or no one to speak on their behalf. It is good that Goblin Baby Theatre in its own way highlights their plight in an entertaining, but provoking fashion."
