Named after the late-19th-century French creation the Michelin Man and housed in the stunningly decorative 1911 pre-art-deco Michelin House, Terence Conran's 1987 enterprise created a major spash when it first opened, and quietly retains a devoted following. Perched above both its oyster bar and Conran's expansive designer home goods store, the proper Bibendum restaurant serves fine modern and classic European food in a comfy, stylish but unstuffy setting. Set lunches and dinners available. Major April 2017 reboot, with the restaurant now overseen by Michelin-prized Claude Bosi. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Check website for oyster bar hours (open seven days, from early morning weekdays). Tube station: South Kensington.

My favorite restaurant in London (Chelsea)
French with British influences. Located in the heart of Chelsea. Sir Terrance Conran's (of Habitat store fame) restaurant in the old Michelin tire factory is a complete winner all around. Location, atmosphere, tall, stained glass windows, beautiful food beautifully served-- an attentive wait staff-- it's a complete pleasure to dine here. With oyster bar and crustacea stall to boot!
