Sagar (West End/Fitzrovia)

One of five London-wide branches, this Fitzrovian outlet serves reasonably priced and noticeably tasty and fresh vegetarian south Indian dishes. Chefs are from Udupi – a city in the southwest Indian state of Karnataka. The daily sit-down lunch thali (including excellent dosa) is a steal, as it's yummy, filling and inexpensive. There's also a Monday to Friday bargain takeaway Lunch Box (still £3.95 in 2021) that will still be warm (and super tasty) when you arrive back on the grass (or bench) in Soho Square just minutes away. Other branches include Catherine St in Covent Garden (their busiest, located directly opposite Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and, since October 2021, Panton St (just off Leicester Square). Plus Hammersmith, where it all started in 2003, and Harrow. 'Sagar' is Hindi for 'ocean'.
