Checkpoint Soho

The Turks took the döner kebab to Berlin in the 1960s, and it's been a British staple for decades. In June 2022 this high-quality and pricier version of the budget Berlin-Turkish staple arrived in Soho, a place with scant history of kebab culture despite the wealth of late-evening tipsy revellers. To produce his fresh and tasty kebab, Istanbul-raised owner Batu has imported critical components from Deutschland: the döner kebab burner grill, the sauces and the waffle-like pide bread, which is grilled, then stuffed with succulent chicken, salad and sauce(s). Falafel, halloumi and excellently crisp and hot fries and are also a thing here. For the record, Turkey and Berlin use different sauces, and the Berlin döner kebab features more salad than the Turkish equivalent. No website. No phone.
