Fabrique (Hoxton)

Swedish oasis under the arches
Tucked away under a railway arch in a comfortingly quiet spot in otherwise aggressively buzzy Hoxton/Shoreditch (and nearby burgeoning Haggerston) you'll find this excellent and modern-thinking, stone-oven Swedish bakery (started in 2008 in Stockholm) specialising in cinnamon and cardomom (and vanilla) buns and sourdough-based breads (including an outstanding baguette), with special attention to coffee too. Seating accommodates perhaps 20, so takeaway dominates the trade here. Opened late 2012. Located ever so close to the Geffrye Museum [see entry]. Other outlets: Covent Garden (8 Earlham St, inches from Soho), Notting Hill (212 Portobello Rd), Fitzrovia (53 Goodge St) and 239 High Holborn. By 2021 there were six Fabriques in London, not to mention about 25 in its native land. Overground station: Hoxton.
