Rochelle Canteen

100% love it
Hidden Shoreditch jewel
A breakfast-and-lunch-only hot spot in a converted school bike shed tucked away behind an inconspicuous door in visually pleasing Arnold Circus in Shoreditch, Rochelle Canteen (named after former Rochelle School) is the domain of Melanie Arnold and Margot Henderson, who started the business in 2004 and continue to oversee an operation that produces consistently yummy modern British food. Henderson got her start in a dining room above Soho's French House, where she cooked with husband Fergus Henerson (now of St John mega-fame [see entry]). This is an ideal and not too pricey lunch option for anyone scouting the Hoxton/Shoreditch/Spitalfields/Brick Lane areas. And Arnold Circus is home to the Boundary Estate – a very early (and handsome-pretty) social housing development. In October 2017 Arnold and Henderson opened an outlet inside the ICA (Institute for Contemporary Arts) [see entry]. Tube station: Old Street.
