Stonewall

(1 Rating)
Britain's byword for gay campaigning and lobbying
Major organisation founded in 1989 — 20 years after the eponymous New York riots — in opposition to the repugnant and dangerous Section 28 of the Local Government Act, designed to prevent the so-called 'promotion' of homosexuality in schools. Since then Stonewall has committed itself to the full whack of gay, lesbian and bisexual issues including age of consent, military service, adoption, homophobia and bullying in schools, civil partnerships, employment issues and the repeal of Section 28. Stage and film actor Ian McKellan was among the organisation's founders. Daily info line: 0800 050 2020.
