Here is a hotel which is not content to rely on its direct proximity to one of Britain's most iconic 20th-century buildings — Battersea Power Station (built between 1929 and 1955; architects J Theo Halliday/Giles Gilbert Scott) — but instead takes inspiration from it, as asserted by its creator, Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon. The result — 164 plush rooms and suites all marked by more than a splash of colour — has somewhat of the look and feel of Mondrian or Salvador Dalí (with a touch of the much-missed Paul Reubens's 1986–91 children's TV gem Pee-wee's Playhouse). The hotel opened full-throttle in February 2023, 21 years after the Park Plaza (Radisson)-owned chain's inaugural outlet in Berlin. Features include Michelin-star food options, a state-of-the-art gym, a spa, an art gallery and, perhaps most notably, a 16th-floor heated Infinity Pool which overlooks the power station, which, following decades of redevelopment, opened in October 2022 as a full-on designer shopping destination, with many original features intact. A two-minute walk from Battersea Power Station Tube station.
