The Standard

The world's sixth Standard hotel (and first outside America) follows New York, Los Angeles and Miami Beach, and succeeds as a colourful reinvention of a striking brutalist building designed in-house by Camden Council in 1974 as an annexe to its town hall. Opened in July 2019, the hotel features 266 rooms in 42 styles, all with interiors developed by Standard stalwart Shaun Hausman Design, marked by cinematic qualities that follow from Hausman's early years as a film production assistant. This hotel is possibly as Hollywood as London gets, including a rooftop restaurant (among the hotel's three) set against the building's new extrusion. Located immediately across the road from two of London's iconic railway stations — St Pancras (International) and King's Cross — and minutes away from two adjacent 21st-century consumer desintation located just behind King's Cross station: Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard. Plenty of Tube lines and bus routes. And Bloomsbury lies immediately south of the hotel, with Soho a very pleasant 25-minute walk away.
