Butch, Please! (at the Clapham Grand)

A monthly gift to anyone identifying as lesbian, trans or non-binary — the brainchild of sturdy scene stalwart Tabs Benjamin, who first staged this den of dykey iniquity in 2016, at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. But the party ougrew the space, and in July 2023 she handed in her keys to the RVT and shifted the party to Grade II-listed late-Victorian theatre the Clapham Grand (the one suviving theatre of architect Ernest Woodrow), with opening night on 2 September 2023. Benjamin assserts that being butch is not about being masculine; Butch, Please! embraces alternative ways of defining oneself as a woman. NB: cis-male partners and friends not welcome. In August 2024 the club staged its Day Party at the Divine in Dalston [see entry], with its Halloween 2024 party due for EartH (Evolutionary Arts Hackney), also in Dalston.
