The Apple Tree TEMPORARILY CLOSED

A previously traditional pub whose olde-worlde exterior belies an alternative world within. Founded by three people with previous commitments to alternative sexuality and lifestyles, the reinvented Apple Tree opened its doors in June 2018, swinging wide to accommodate the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ people, including anyone whose sensibilities and relationships fall outside of the mainstream. There's an upstairs function room for workshops, talks and gatherings (and charity events), plus pop-up queer-friendly enterprises (eg barbers and other services). Cocktails and mocktails are on the menu, as is vegan food and monthly Tuesday quiz nights, with more in store. Music varies and is chosen by whoever's working. Tube station: Farringdon. This location has been shut since 2022 — and the Clerkenwell Green pop-up is now also closed — but as of 2024 renovations at 5 Mount Pleasant are happening. Watch this space.
