Bloc South/The Bloc (Closed Permanently) Formerly: Club No. 65

Just when you thought gay Vauxhall was on a corporate-development-led path to extinction, along came scene-stealer Wayne Shires with Bloc South – a dark and atmospheric, under-the-arches haven for manly cruising and dancing that could become Shires's 21st-century answer to his 1990s success story Crash, which was located next door. Shires relocated his Saturday beef-and-beard club Brüt [see entry] from the City to this location, now happening weekly on Fridays. There are two main ground-floor spaces — one for dancing and the other for drinking and socialising — plus a labyrinth of darkrooms upstairs. Suzie Krueger's naked/briefs/jocks-embracing cruise party JOXXX started October 2017 (now Sunday 5pm–1am), and her monthly Hard On [see entry] moved in the same month. Plus regular Saturday hits such as sports-minded Fitladz [see entry], Trough (harnessed hunks), Tribe (fetish-friendly manliness) and Rob Rutt's strict and hugely popular leather/rubber venture RUT [see entry]. Bloc South opened March 2017 and is located opposite MI6, in between Union and Chariots sauna — a one- or two-minute walk from Vauxhall tube station, depending on state of mind. Address sometimes given as 65 Goding St (at the rear). Stop Press: Bloc South sadly closed at the end of May 2019, replaced by a straight enterprise.
