Her Upstairs/Them Downstairs

It's the queerest thing
Plush seating and reassuring and knowing kitschy-camp detail define this intimate, den-like first-floor space located seconds from Camden Town tube station. Her Upstairs is the domain of alt-cabaret specialists and co-hosts Joe, George (ex-Madame Jojo's and Dalston Superstore) and drag queen Meth (Meth Lab), whose emphasis is squarely on non-mainstream and possibly dirty cabaret performances, washed down with cocktails and other drinkees (using London spirits, where available), all in a welcoming and casual environment. Plus the warm and welcoming Vickie on the door for security. There's normally something happening on stage every night but Tuesday and Wednesday (with monthly Wednesday queer comedy an exception), so it's best to check the website for the salacious details. On the whole, Thursdays feature niche, specialist and up-and-coming talent on rotation, with Meth taking the mic on Fridays. Name indie drag acts dominate Saturdays, while Sundays are dominated by the likes of Virgin Xtravaganzah. Opened September 2016. Closed Tuesday, but watch this space for summer 2017 schedule changes. In April 2017 the ground-floor space, previously occupied by Wayne Shires's The Bloc, transformed into Them Downstairs for late-night Friday and Saturday fabulousness.
