Big club for big men and the rest
Very popular club luring cruisy, older bears (ex-1970s/80s clones) and their younger protégé cubs, rubbing up against less stalky and less bearded but still hungry onlookers. Established in 2000 by Mark Ames. In March 2012 XXL moved from Arcadia (formerly the Arches) to Pulse — an enormous south-of-the-river club that opened March 2011, with five interconnecting arches including three bar areas, state-of-the-art video projection and a well-endowed dance floor. The clientele is more casual and less bear-like than it once was. Monthly night XXL Leather combines bulk and...leather, with harnessed hunks crowding the dance floor. Located five minutes' walk north of Southwalk tube station, a minute west of Tate Modern. Also ten minutes west of London Bridge. On 24 June 2019 XXL was served an eviction notice by developers and new landlords Native Land, with instructions to leave within three months. XXL lost its Pulse on Saturday 21 September 2019. Watch this space for new venue.

Dearest in mind, It is a great privilege and honor As you read this message, I don't want you to feel sorry for me, because I believe everyone will die someday. My name is Mrs Mariam Hana Dauda from USA, I'm a merchant and a Cocoa Exporter from West African country and North African country to united State of America. I have been diagnosed with Esophageal cancer. It has defiled all forms of medical treatment, and right now I have only about a few months to live, according to medical experts. I have not particularly lived my life so well, as I never really cared for anyone (not even myself) but only my business. Though I am very rich, I was never generous, I was always hostile to people and only focused on my business as that was the only thing I cared for. But now I regret all this as I now know that there is more to life than just wanting to have or make all the money in the world. I have willed and given most of my property and assets to my immediate and extended family members as well as a few close friends. I have decided to give alms to charity organizations, as I want this to be one of the last good deeds I do on earth so far, I have distributed money to some charity organizations in the U.A.E, India and Malaysia. Now that my health has deteriorated so badly, I cannot do this myself anymore. I once asked members of my family to close one of my accounts and distribute the money which I have there to charity organization in Bulgaria and India, they refused and kept the money to themselves. Hence, I do not trust them anymore,as they seem not to be contended with what I have left for them. The last of my money which no one knows of it is the huge cash deposit of (Twenty One million Dollars ) ($21,0000.00) that I have with a finance Company abroad which I will want you to help me collect this deposit and dispatched it to charity organizations.I have set aside 20% of the total sum for you, for your time and patience, Now you have to send reply with your full contact information for more private and confidential communication, I am waiting anxiously to pass information's to you before my last hour as i have no more time unless by God's intervention. you can reach me here on my hospital email address for more introduction about myself. mariamhana1965@gmail.com or drop your email here for me to have quick contact with you. Yours truly in pain, Mariam Hana Dauda

      A great club for everyone
Arrived at about 11:30pm and it was starting to fill up. By 1am, the club was jumping. Friendly atmosphere.... different music in separate rooms...Plenty to places to sit if that's what you want ..Drinks weren't expensive....average...But the whole vibe of the club as layed back and welcoming. Main dance floor got crowded as expected...They do have a back room so if you to play that's also available. Staff was helpful, and friendly.. They do pat you down upon entry, so be responsibe. Entrance fee was £15,£8 for members and coat check was £1. All in all a fabulous night, at a club that finally got things right, and fairly easy to get to with the tube. 5 min walk from Southwark on the Jubilee line...

lost direction, lost spirit bear or big men
One day it was good but now you see skinny young guys. Lost all that old vibe that welcomed older men and the bear community. Now feeling is beautiful boys and that bears are guests.

      XXL has lost it's charm
Currently £15 entry-that's before you pay for coat check & drinks-this an expensive and (since XXL moved to Pulse) soulless experience. The club is vast with several rooms, bars & dance floors. You will certainly have plenty to look at! I preferred XXL at it's old venue, now it all feels very impersonal & harder to meet new friends. It has lost the sense of intimacy that the old club had. Seems Owner Mark Ames is all about milking the pink pound rather than the customer experience. The 2 lovely outside smoking areas of the previous venue has gone too,now you are just stood on the street outside & made to feel like a social lepor. Yes, smoking is a bad habit but the fact is lots of gay men do smoke. It's a free country & my choice to smoke-I don't need a supposedly inclusive gay club to make me feel like an outcast. The outside areas in the old venue were always busy & fostered lots of conversation. That vibe has gone. For this reason alone I will not be going back. The music on the main large dance floor is very unimaginative handbag-house-expect Kylie,Rihanna,Beyoncé & similar generic pop. They have been playing some of these songs for years now (Kylie's "The One" for example) and it's wearing thin, sadly what was once a nice friendly clubbing experience has become an impersonal, sterile and tedious one.

Probably the best regular Saturday night out for gay men in London
Whilst ostensibly a bears night, XXL attracts a broad crowd from bears to displaced Vauxhall shirts-off muscle clubbers. The music in the main room may be a bit heavy on The Freemasons for some and this is not the place to hear cutting edge sounds, but overall this a great night out. Pulse is of a good size with spacious bar areas and an attitude free crowd. There is also a dark room which is a rarity for the UK. At a time when London's gay clubs have experienced mixed fortunes, XXL is now probably the most consistently reliable Saturday club night for all gay men in London. For anyone new to, or visiting, London this a great club to meet people.
