As the name would suggest, XXL combines bulk and...leather, with harnessed hunks crowding the dance floor. Gay scene mover and shaker Mark Ames established XXL in 2000, and within several years the club developed near-iconic status. In March 2012 it moved from Arcadia (formerly the Arches) to Pulse — an enormous (and then relatively new) south-of-the-river club located five minutes' walk north of Southwalk Tube station. On 24 June 2019 XXL was served an eviction notice by developers and new landlords Native Land, and on Saturday 21 September 2019 lost its Pulse. As of 2023 Ames is staging XXL parties at Boltz in Birmingham (Kent St, Lower Essex St, B5 6RD). As for London, watch this space.

Can’t Wait
As an avid XXL goer, I am now wanting for its return so badly, this space created the avenue for disabled (wheelchair users) gay men to be part of the scene that’s sometimes exclusionary.

A great club for everyone
Arrived at about 11:30pm and it was starting to fill up. By 1am, the club was jumping. Friendly atmosphere.... different music in separate rooms...Plenty to places to sit if that's what you want ..Drinks weren't expensive....average...But the whole vibe of the club as layed back and welcoming. Main dance floor got crowded as expected...They do have a back room so if you to play that's also available. Staff was helpful, and friendly.. They do pat you down upon entry, so be responsibe. Entrance fee was £15,£8 for members and coat check was £1. All in all a fabulous night, at a club that finally got things right, and fairly easy to get to with the tube. 5 min walk from Southwark on the Jubilee line...
lost direction, lost spirit bear or big men
One day it was good but now you see skinny young guys. Lost all that old vibe that welcomed older men and the bear community. Now feeling is beautiful boys and that bears are guests.
