Royal Court Theatre

In the vein of Covent Garden's Donmar Warehouse and Islington's Almeida Theatre, the Royal Court is a hip and very popular non-commercial London theatre committed to international new writing, often staging productions with known or promising up-and-coming actors. The emphasis here is on serious, provocative and/or worthy. In 1956 the Royal Court premiered John Osborne's kitchen-sink-realist drama LOOK BACK IN ANGER, thus establishing itself as a vehicle for non-traditional, issue-based, worthy and/or demanding works. The top floor houses a second (and much smaller) theatre, and there's a buzzy restaurant/bar in the basement. Sadly, the Monday £12 seats are a thing of the past. Tube station: Sloane Square.
