Cineworld Leicester Square (formerly Empire Leicester Square) Formerly: Empire Leicester Square

Along with its competitive neighbour the Odeon Leicester Square, the Cineworld experience offers big-budget movies experienced on all-conqueringly expansive screens. In 2014 the vast auditorium previously known as Screen 1 was divvied up, resulting in an IMAX auditorium (screen width 87.5 feet) and an adjacent IMPACT auditorium (screen width 68 feet). These screens feel rather big for straightforward dramas and comedies, and ticket prices cost a pretty penny. At least the sound quality is an improvement. The complex, previously called Empire Leicester Square, houses seven other screens and broadcasts live stage and opera works. In the summer of 2016 Cineworld took over the operation and changed the name, ending a 132-year run as a theatre or cinema named 'Empire'.
