Saatchi Gallery

The domain of internationally recognised art collector and former advertising mogul Charles Saatchi, this undeniably impressive gallery showcases works by largely unseen young artists or by international artists whose work has been rarely or never exhibited in the UK. When Saatchi opened his first gallery in 1985 [in St John's Wood], he flaunted his collection of A-list American artists, but later carved a reputation for advancing the careers of young or less-well-known Brits such as Damien Hirst, Jenny Saville, Sarah Lucas, Gavin Turk, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Rachel Whiteread and Tracey Emin, several of whom entered national public consciousness via sensationalistic tabloid coverage. In 2008 Saatchi moved into the current spectacular space, previously home to the Duke of York's Barracks. Until 2013 the Iraqi-born Brit was married to chef and TV personality Nigella Lawson. Last entry daily = 5.30pm. Local shopping: Peter Jones and the many outlets (many of them chains) in the King's Rd, and on Saturdays there's a farmer's market just outside the gallery.
