The Courtauld Gallery

(1 Rating)
Cherished art gallery

The Courtauld Institute is dedicated to the study and preservation of art and architecture, and houses this popular and quietly charming gallery containing an impressive collection of Renaissance, Impressionist and post-Impressionist paintings and works on paper, augmented by temporary small-scale exhibitions. The handsome courtyard of neoclassical Somerset House features a magically positioned outdoor skating rink in December and January. The Courtauld is within walking distance of Covent Garden to the north, the South Bank arts complex to the south (via Waterloo Bridge with its glorious views in either direction) and Trafalgar Sqaure to the west. Between 2018 and 2021 the gallery closed for major redevelopment.
