Situated sadly, weirdly but interestingly within Vauxhall's traffic swamp, just a minute from the tube and a 19th-century door handle's throw from all of the area's gay nighttime hot spots, is this unapologetically nostalgic nod to the decorative splendour of Old London domesticity. Nearly everything in this place of 'architectural salvage, ornament and curiosities' is way too bulky and heavy to take home in a suitcase, but there are a fair number of minute gems alongside the monumental: glazed tiles, antiquarian prints, looking glasses etc., priced and on display in a grand Georgian house of never-ending staircases and rooms, practically doubling as a museum. Started in 1977, this one-off relics business moved from its east London church location to Vauxhall in 2005. An excellent chandelier-crazed café with daily hot and cold foodie specialties opened in May 2007 [see Brunswick House food entry], adding to the already delectable pull of the place.
