John Lewis

(6 Ratings)
Oxford St department store with unbeatable service

Along with Peter Jones in Chelsea's Sloane Square, this is the flagship store of the nationwide worker co-operative John Lewis Partnership, which also owns high-quality supermarket chain Waitrose. An unusually pleasing, exhaustive but not exhausting retail outlet, it offers everything from haberdashery to picnicware. You won't find such attentive and measured service in a non-pricey store of this scale anywhere. Gets extra points for its fine restaurant facilities and a Waitrose food store in the basement. Not to mention the reliable John Lewis Partnership policy of not being knowingly undersold. There was even a time when the lighting department was a staple of Saturday gay shopping.

Never Knowingly Undersold

Its very middle of the road style wise. But this employee owned company's flagship store is, as their tagline says Never Knowingly Undersold. Always value for the basics.
