Bea's of Bloomsbury *

Beyond the cupcake
Very good patisserie/café with a modern take on the olde-worlde tea room, including eye-catching cakes (ie puffy meringues) on display in the window. The cupcakes are attention-grabbing, but perhaps their finest creation is the duffin – a deliciously cinnamon/nutmeg-flavoured and excellently textured muffin/doughnut hybrid let down only by its rather awkward name. Quality sandwiches and salads also available. Opened February 2008 and located in Holborn/Bloomsbury, with an even larger outlet in St Paul's (83 Watling St) and a pint-sized shop in Farringdon (43 Cowcross St).
