Grillshack (Closed Permanently)

An unfussy, uncynical and bang-up grill operation devoted to quality Americana, Grillshack offers tasty takes on the modern burger (outstanding), rump steak (flattened) and grilled half chicken (tender), all at reasonable prices. The potato stick-like fries might lose their heat within seconds, but there's plenty on the plate to compensate. Buttermilk pancakes, french toast and eggs start the day, while the all-day menu kicks in at 11.30am. Tiled walls, warm lighting, a generous supply of comfy booths, darkened basement and an eclectic playlist of hip and agreeable pop oldies all feature in the American-abroad equation. Service is perky, and the novel ordering scheme takes the form of three options: normal over-the-counter, app or touchscreen, all followed by delivery to the table.
