Soundcrash are extremely excited to bring Brighton’s Voodoo Love Orchestra back to East London’s Rich Mix. The Brighton shamans are back with a fresh mug of juju, especially concocted to get you grooving and shaking. Join us as they showcase their new album ‘Inglorious Technicolor’, which features 10 brassed up panoramic tracks and is a delightful follow up to their debut album released in 2015 ‘Amor y Muerte’.
Hailed by Craig Charles as ‘Double Groovy’, Voodoo Love Orchestra certainly know how to move a dancefloor. Formed in Brighton in 2012 they are born out of Latin American and New Orleans style. The euphoric riot of musicians are made up of a sousaphone, trombone, trumpet, baritone sax, tenor sax, alto sax, clarinet, vocals, military drumcorps and latin percussion and have blown away Love Supreme, Secret Garden Party and our very own Funk and Soul Weekender, to name a few. Expect a mix up from Colombian Cumbia, Nigerian Afrobeat and Highlife. VLO’s music is inspired from as far as Fela Kuti and as wide as Lucho Bermudez, this show is sure to make you groove.
Their debut album ‘Amor y Muerte’ was released on Movimientos Records in 2015 and was championed by Simon Broughton,Craig Charles and Claire Teal. 'Inglorious Technicolor' includes interpretations of classic tracks that are filtered through the various lenses of funk, blues, big band swing, mambo, ska and cumbia. This latest release features versions of Queen of the Blues Koko Taylor’s 70s classic ‘Voodoo Woman’ and a barnstorming ’Frankenstein Ska’ made famous by Byron Lee & The Dragonaires, whilst ‘Ghost Town’ develops a distinctly Colombian skank. Quietly explosive and utterly infectious, this album will start your toes tapping; before you know it you you’ll be drenched in sweat, lost in a dancing fever.
“Double Groovy” – Craig Charles
“The party album of the year? Love it” – Clive Davis, The Sunday Times
