2015 saw the biggest ever protests against the DSEI arms fair in East London. The setup of the fair was disrupted by six consecutive days of creative blockades; the London transport system was subvertised with spoof ads which were seen by thousands of commuters and over 10,000 people signed a petition calling on David Cameron to 'welcome refugees, not arms dealers'.
Six month later, eight activists from the UK, Bahrain, Chile, Peru and Belgium on trial for blocking the setup of the fair were found not guilty by a judge who said that there was “clear, credible and largely unchallenged evidence from the expert witnesses of wrongdoing at DSEI and compelling evidence that it took place in 2015”.
From London to Paris, Wellington to Seoul, groups around the world have been taking action against arms fairs. Arms fairs are where the deals that fuel conflict and repression the world over begin. #WarStartsHere. But that means we can also act to stop it here.
With a year to go until DSEI is due to return to East London, come along to this launch event to find out about the inspiring actions against arms fairs that have happened around the world and get involved in planning to #StopDSEI for good.
