ReShape and the Cinema Museum are proud to present She Done Him Wrong, a 1933 American comedy film, starring Mae West and Cary Grant. The screening will be followed by an open discussion with Jan Pimblett and Dom Agius. Neil Bartlett will be our Master of Ceremony.
The film was adapted from the successful Broadway play Diamond Lil by Mae West. The Hays Code declared the play banned from the screen and repeatedly demanded changes to remove associations with or elements from the play, including suggested titles with the word "diamond". The adaption was finally allowed under the condition that the play not be referred to in publicity or advertising. The movie is famous for West's many double entendres and quips and incidentally, provided inspiration for generations of drag queens.
The film was a box-office success and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. At 66 minutes, it is the shortest film ever to be so honoured
This is a free event but we need your donations on the night to ensure the continuation of the VITO project. All donations go towards covering the costs associated with running the event (film licences, heating and lighting, rental of the premises, printing, promotion etc). Donations are VITO's only source of funding and we need to raise an average of £5 per person just to cover our costs. So PLEASE DIG DEEP and give us a paper donation if you are able to.
Doors to the cafe/bar will open at 6pm for a 7pm screening. Come early to secure a seat as it can get very busy and we do not take bookings. The doors to the Cinema will be shut once capacity is reached.
For more information on the VITO Project, please go to:www.reshapenow.org or contact Sylvie Beaumont, ReShape Coordinator at info.reshapenow@gmail.com
All future showings in the series will be the last Wednesday of the month
