“PERVERSITY IS THE HUMAN THIRST FOR SELF-TORTURE”
EDGAR ALLAN POE
Edgar Allan Poe (1809-49) is the master of gothic horror, lover of darkness and decay. He has influenced countless artists such as Lou Reed, Baudelaire and Hitchcok. In his macabre short story “The Tell-Tale Heart” (1843) he reveals the perverse human psychology in a perverse and absurd universe.
Using elements of sound, movement and animation East London Session Players have gathered a team of out-standing East London talent to explore the obscure beauty of Poe’s narration and his unique ability to combine horror, paranoia and humour.
From 1817-1820 Edgar A. Poe lived in London with his adoptive family. He went to school in Stoke Newington, an experience that clearly inspired his dark, imaginative style. What better location could there be to set his story than the basement of The Glory.
