Taking place in Vauxhall Spring Gardens, behind the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, the GAY SPORTS DAY London event, now in its 8th year, promises a day of sporty fun over the summer bank holiday.
Organised by the GMFA gay men's health charity, the event provides a series of camp and tongue-in-cheek sporting events, including a handbag throwing competition and a 50m mince. Other races on the day include the space hopper relay, tug of war and the drag relay.
The afternoon event encourages everyone to spend the bank holiday being out and proud and having fun. Limited spaces are available for teams of five to take part in the event, but if you don't feel like being that active on your day off you can always cheer on the teams for free from the sidelines.
The event will once again be hosted by the fabulous TIMBERLINA.
There’ll also be an outside bar and DJs to entertain us throughout the afternoon and more surprises in store, so whether you’re entering a team or just coming along to watch, the day promises to be great fun, and a fabulous way to finish off your bank holiday weekend!
There are trophies for the team which scores the most points at the end of the day, i.e. the winners, the team which raises the most amount of money, and the team with the best costume. To enter a team, all you need do is form a team of five members. Register your team with GMFA by emailing: matthew.hodson@gmfa.org.uk.
The GAY SPORTS DAY event takes place on Monday, 31st August 2015, 1pm till 5.30pm.
Admission is free, but if you take part in the games you'll be asked to raise sponsorship money for charity.
Volunteering: do you have experience in event planning or stewarding? Is your address book bulging with celebrities that you could hit up for auction prizes? Can you make the links to get major sponsorship for this year's event? If you're interested in taking part in GAY SPORTS DAY through either volunteering or competing, please contact matthew.hodson@gmfa.org.uk.
About GMFA
Founded in 1992, GMFA is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to gay men’s health. Our mission is to improve gay men’s health by increasing the control they have over their own lives. We believe that the best health promotion for gay men comes from gay men themselves. For this reason, we use the knowledge and ideas of volunteers, most of them gay men, to design and plan our sexual health interventions.
These include a range of advertising campaigns, leaflets, postcards and booklets; 'FS', our health magazine, distributed nationally in gay venues and GU clinics; and national and London-based courses covering sex education, life skills and smoking cessation. In addition, we create targeted sexual health interventions for black gay men and HIV positive gay men.
