John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) along with Paul Dawson and PJ DeBoy (Shortbus) bring their long-running, semi-legendary MATTACHINE DANCE PARTY from New York City’s West Village to East London.
Born 7 years ago at NYC's oldest gay bar, Julius, where in 1966, America's first gay rights organization, the Mattachine Society, protested against the city's then antiquated anti-gay laws paving the way for Stonewall and all that came after.
Having hosted the party in a dozen US cities, and internationally from Berlin to Brazil, Mitchell and his partners finally arrive in London. They will join forces with London DJ duo TheMenWhoFell2Earth (of "Rebel Rebel" fame) to commandeer Bethnal Green Working Men's Club for a very special incarnation this September.
The gang will be spinning their carefully-curated songs of queer yesteryear. Hand-made classic rock, early pop standards, soul, funk, punk, country, New Wave, old school hip hop at what has been dubbed the "queerest and coolest" dance party ever.
And there will also be some VERY SPECIAL LIVE PERFORMANCES, which will include JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL SINGING SONGS FROM HEDWIG, plus other guest performances that we will be announcing nearing the time.
