Muscle fashion glamour
The basement sibling of ground-floor restaurant-bar Profile [see entry], Lo-Profile lays on the gloss and glitz with a certain intensity, as does its image-aware male clientele. Owned by Henry Badenhorst (inventor of online dating site Gaydar in 1999), this throbbing and sweaty enterprise sets out to be "sexy and cruisy but not sleazy", and boasts a prominent dance area, house DJs on rotation and chill-out booths. Thursdays are a bit fashiony (gay boys and their girl friends), Fridays have a red light atmosphere (very male and porn-like) and Mondays brings in the bears. Saturdays are just plain buzzy and busy (Club Nation, in collaboration with GaydarRadio). Mysteriously the ads for this bar often show guys in leather, which belies the clientele. In January 2013 Q Soft Consulting (owners of Gaydar dating website) closed both both its Soho bars — Lo-Profile and Profile — and its 11-year-old Gaydar radio station, the latter of which was reinvented as Gaydio.
