Brüt

(9 Ratings)
Beef and bear

Manly venture started by seasoned London gay mover and shaker Wayne Shires. Brüt targets "bears blokes cubs hunks" (ie updated clones, with beards, biceps and waistlines expanding on the moustaches and slim builds of the 1980s, but for the most part without the leather). Brüt first opened in February 2015, at The Steel Yard in the City, then in March 2017 shifted to Vauxhall to the "new club space" Bloc South, but that lovely seedy wet dream ended at the end of May ...

Nothing special

I decided to go to Brut as an alternative to XXL on Saturdays. The venue on a side street off Upper Thames Street next to the fire station. I was pretty shocked to find they now take your photo id and scan it to a computer database which is shared with god knows who else along with your home address. Apparently this is something that is happening or soon to happen at every club in the country?! As I went through the entrance the guy checking the tickets told me I looked "stupid" and asked "Do you even know where you are or what day of the week it is?" There's two rooms, both were playing a similar style of 90's house. Tunes such as Cafe Del Mar, Orbital's Chime, Robin S Show Me Love etc. Not exactly cutting edge but fine for what it was. Unlike XXL there's no dark room so there is the dancefloor or a seating area upstairs or the bar. The queues for the bogs were long with the most people seemingly waiting to get into the cubicles to take their e's. Expect to pay a quid to the toilet attendant. There was wet paint on one of the stair banister. An attempt to cover it with cling film was only partially succesful and I saw several people get black paint on their clothes.
