Cruisy old-fashioned gay-pub atmosphere
Mostly popular, nearly-all-male Vauxhall spot with very pleasing outdoor garden/smoking area. The bar tends to draw conventionally manly guys — with bulky-bear barmen dominating the floor —and in October 2012 reinstated laid-back cruisiness to its weeknight policy. At the weekend it caters to various subsets and interests, including Friday's Men Inc. (which replaced Tonker in October 2014), semi-regular Saturday clubs such as Black Eagle (leather-friendly evening hosted by the Wolf Pack in cahoots with Eagle Amsterdam, first Saturday, started officially September 2015) and R18 Unrestricted (cruise party with no dress code, fourth Saturday), plus the ever popular Sunday evening boy/girl party Horse Meat Disco [see separate entry]. Furry-friendly Monday night Hot 'n' Hairy vs Bearhole joined the roster in late March 2015, hosted by Dave the Bear and Luis Busto. Other new 2015 entries include Red Light (twinning with leather/fetish Eagle Amsterdam every six weeks) and Kink (every third Thursday). Previously named South Central and before that Duke's, the bar opened as the Eagle in 2004, reinvented by current owner Mark Oakley. In February 2013 the bar expanded its horizons with its first 'sex entertainment license'; thus the addition of R18 to the raunchy roster.
