79 CXR CLOSED AS OF OCT 2012 (Closed Permanently)

(12 Ratings)
Unfussy centrally located cruisy pub
Just seconds from Soho, 79 CXR is a low-key but frisky pub noted for various nooks and crannies, offering a friendly, attitude-free and rather old-fashioned environment, with a second bar upstairs. Admirers of this establishment's previously low-level lighting will find the increased wattage in 2010 a tad disappointing. 79 CXR closed its doors in October 2012 following, so the story goes, a certain decline at the hands of straight brewery managers. Reopened 1 November 2012 as Manbar, under gay management.

Great place

Actually one of my favorite bars to grab a pint in central London. A bit dingy, and can be very cruisy...but certainly what you choose to make of it. Patrons are friendly. Met a wonderful man there while on holiday in 04......we are the best of friends to this day!

Pick up place

This is a good place to go to pick up. It is straightforward, unpretentious and unfancy. Drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is pleasant enough.
