Picturehouse Central

An excellent but rather pricey seven-screen complex that opened in June 2015 inside what used to be the tacky London Trocadero entertainment complex. This venue is now the flagship cinema of the small-ish Picturehouse group — the 'thinking person's' arm of the more glossy and corporate-feeling Cineworld chain. There's a café (from 10am) and a bar (from noon), but the real strengths here —and they are major — are the projection, sound and comfort, from an intimate 66-seater to the more grand, Hollywood-friendly Screen 1, which accomodates 34. The busy, designery/funky decor of the foyer and box office spaces provides something of an overload of 'fun'. Located immediately south of Soho, just west of Chinatown, with its entrance near the corner of Shatesbury Avenue and Great Windmill St. Tickets cost £17.20 in 2022, but £3 cheaper for matinees (plus concessions for students and the retired).
