The Wapping Project (Closed Permanently)

No ratings yet
Elderly pumping station given new life as a full-on arts venue
Major trendy arts establishment since 2000, 23 years after the demise of the 19th-century hydraulic power station it occupies, specialising in mostly commissioned contemporary works including international art (emphasis on installations), dance, design, music, film and photography, plus talks and readings. In short, a rather precious but welcomed oasis of artiness (industrial chic) in the overdeveloped and somewhat soulless area west of Docklands. Food is also a big thing here, available daily, with weekend brunch a magnet for trendy arts-lovers. And there's a bookshop. East London Line overground station: Wapping. Sadly the Wapping Project shut down in December 2013.
