Soho Theatre

Founded in 1969 and settled in its present home since 2000, Soho Theatre showcases new writers and promotes challenging and independent-minded theatre [read: alternative], whether comedy, performance art, opera or cabaret. There's also a talks programme and a bar and restaurant. More than 2,000 performances a year, with many shows ending up on tour, including internationally. This is the theatre that put performance art duo Kiki & Herb on the map in London, and it's where Pheobe Waller-Bridge says she staged her acting and writing debut. Other successes have included a showcase of veteran actor and iconic English drag artiste Bette Bourne, known best for the gay cabaret troupe Bloolips and his various turns as Quentin Crisp, including Tim Fountain's OBIE-winning play RESIDENT ALIEN.
