Seriously darling institution dedicated to the decorative arts
The V&A, as it is commonly known, boasts the world's largest collection of decorative arts and design, with 4.5 million artefacts and treasures spanning more than 3000 years, not all of them on show. The range is staggering, including fabulous 15th-century tapestries, Bernini's Neptune and Triton, centuries of costume, Indian art, ceramics from Asia, the Middle East and Europe, and, among other departments far too numerous to mention, a hugely popular assemblage of plaster-cast reproductions of famous artworks. Tube station: South Kensington. Landmarks within easy reach: Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens, Serpentine Gallery, Harrods and the Conran shop.
